The kits for the Nikon 9000/8000 utilize the scanner
holders. no other holders are needed.
  • Do you need glass holders or AN Glass?
    Before ScanScience popularized fluid scanning,
you bought a Glass holder hoping that restraining
film curvature would result in sharper scans.
However the glass  restrains the film only when the
film curvature is down against the glass. Although
the emulsion shrinks in dry environments, in
summer humidity, the film may adopt a concave
shape towards the glass and render the glass
    holder useless.

Question about using the kits for the Nikon
    8000/9000
  • What about fluid dripping inside the scanner?
  • A concern with beginners is that the fluid will drip
inside the scanner. However, the fluid mount is
totally dry externally before it goes into the scanner
and then, the only existing fluid is internal: A micro-
layer between film and glass, film and overlay.
  • What about Image quality output from a fluid
    scan from the Nikon 9000/8000?
  • With a drum scan its special quality stems from fluid
scanning. Fluid scanning also upgrades the Nikon
9000/8000 significantly, and the output -short of
turning out central station filling murals, are
    outstanding.
  • The Nikon 8000 with is highly collimated light
source, takes full advantage of wet mounting, which
converts it into a truly amazing scanner. This
scanner delivers images of outstanding contrast
and sharpness without the harsh grain which is
inherent in scanners with a collimated light source.
With fluid scanning the 8000 becomes a superharp
    scanner without the drawbacks.
  • Remember to order spare plates.  Save time
by assembling one mount while scanning
    another.
  • Glass is very thin - Good to have a back up.
  • What were the Downsides of the Glass
    Holder?
Be sure to read the technical section to learn why
the glass holder is no longer needed and about the
    banishment of Newton Rings.

  • The scanner software instructs the scanner how to produce a scan and then translates it into an actual image.
  • The scanner input and the software translation, can be changed but not created in Photoshop so whatever
was lost in the scanning is lost for ever. The scanning software's role is crucial to high quality scanning.
  • Epson supplies the full version of Silverfast with the Epson V750, the perfect complement to fluid scanning:
Together they achieve maximum dynamic range and tonal richness important to artists and archivists.
  • A multiple exposure version of Silverfast is available as a special upgrade: it increases the dynamic range
even further digging into the shadows and getting detail out of the highlights. Silverfast multiple exposure has
a unique auto-registration feature which keeps all passes in perfect registration. This avoids loss of
sharpness which is the downfall of multiple scan software. To find out more about Silverfast click on the
image above. It is in our best interest that you get the finest scan.
